The Erasmus Medical Center is the largest and most progressive hospital in the Netherlands. Thousands of employees, volunteers and students are committed every day to a healthy population and excellent care through research and education.
The Erasmus Medical Center was completely renovated a while ago. Not only was the building brought up to date, the working method was also adapted to the latest insights. The starting point for the construction was to make maximum use of the available space and financial resources for the care tasks.
The Erasmus Medical Center asked Quispel the question: how do we ensure that all employees can safely store their personal belongings and clothing in a limited space? The challenge: a space-saving wardrobe solution with simple, efficient and safe storage space.
Quispel came up with a solution for furnishing the changing rooms and implemented storage options for more than 12,000 employees. This resulted in 16,000 lockers, including office lockers, wardrobe lockers and shoe lockers, spread over 150 places in the building.
Since not all employees are on duty at the same time, before all lockers were never in use. Personal lockers are therefore definitely a thing of the past for Erasmus MC. We installed a dynamic locker system that is designed in such a way that several employees use a locker at different times. This solution provides Erasmus MC with significant savings in the number of locker cabinets required.
The office lockers are intended for safe storage of personal belongings. The shoe and changing room lockers are located in the central changing room areas and are used by staff wearing a uniform. All lockers are dynamically assigned and released via a locker management system. A locker can be reserved and used using a smartphone app.
The office and wardrobe lockers are time-bound, the shoe lockers are not. Employees are assigned a free office or wardrobe locker via the locker management system at the start of their shift for a maximum of 18 or 28 hours (for 24-hour shifts). The locker must be released before the end of the set period of use, so that it can be used by a next colleague. In this way, optimal use is made of the available lockers 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
Thanks to the user-friendly locker management system, it is clear in real time which employee is using a locker at what time. The locking system is controlled by a Cloud-based solution with which the lockers can be managed very easily and transparently.
The implemented solution has now been in use for more than 3 years and fits seamlessly with the Erasmus MC's premise for a space-saving and cost efficient changing room solution. The first experiences with the locker management system and the app are good. The dynamic assignment is simple and the locker management system shows exactly what is happening at the level of both the locker and the user. Erasmus MC also wishes to be able to produce more extensive management overviews in due course.
With the Mylocker app, the user can closely monitor what happens to his/her locker. The system informs the user via the app about all kinds of things, such as alerts, the time remaining for locker use, parcels delivered and to be collected, etc. A user can of course also simply claim an available locker or open a locker.
